Industrial plastic waste recycling
Recycling industrial plastic waste
Aston Plastics provides free collection for manufacturers, distributors, warehouses and other businesses that generate significant quantities of clean plastic scrap.
We’ll purchase uncontaminated manufacturing plastic scrap of specified resin grades and provide a regular service to remove all plastic scrap. For each client, we design an appropriate collection system, providing suitable receptacles such as bins and crates for them to use. Our service removes all plastic waste, reduces costs and allows businesses to focus on their core activities.
We also collect from businesses that generate less than 1m3 or 150kg of plastic scrap per week. Depending on the location and type of plastic involved, this may incur a small collection charge.
In addition to the plastic scrap we recycle ourselves, we’ll collect any other plastic waste and find appropriate avenues for recycling.
Through our activities, we assist our customers to reduce their waste costs and meet their obligations under industry or legislative requirements such as the Packaging Accord in New Zealand and the National Packaging Covenant in Australia.
At Astron, we pride ourselves on the reliability of our collection service. The price in each instance depends on a number of factors such as the grade, colour, quantity, quality and purity of the plastic, as well as market conditions.
Dramatic step for plastic recycling in New Zealand
New Zealand's capability to recycle plastics locally took a significant step forward with the introduction of a state-of-the-art Erama extruder at Astron Plastics in Auckland. The extruder, the first of its kind in the country, was unveiled by the CEO of the Ministry for the Environment, Mr Hugh Logan, at a ceremony on 12 October 2006.
The new extruder can process 9.6 tonne of industrial plastic waste per day, adding substantially to the national recycling capacity. Its laser filter is the most advanced in Australasia and enables Astron Plastics to recycle contaminated plastic which previously had to be shipped offshore.
This advance is especially pertinent in the light of the proposed Waste Minimisation Bill before Parliament. If passed, the bill will introduce measures to reduce the amount of solid waste going to landfills, as well as promoting reuse and recycling.
Expanding New Zealand's recycling capability means less waste will have to be shipped offshore, to countries where different environmental standards may apply. It benefits the economy too, because the more recycled resin is made available locally, the less plastic needs to be imported into the country.
"Apart from being financially prudent, companies demonstrate their corporate responsibility by getting their industrial plastic waste recycled locally," says Richard Anyon, managing director of Astron Plastics. "It helps our country do business in an environmentally sustainable way."
